2021 American Silver Eagles
Next year in 2021, a new design by American Silver Eagle marks the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle coin program. The U.S. Mint has launched new reverse designs for the Gold Eagle and the Silver Eagle to commemorate the anniversary. These modifications to the U.S. Gold Eagle and Silver Eagle of 2021 will establish a new standard design for both coins.
The new reverse 2021 design of the Silver Eagle will depart from the past and replace the old reverse eagle design of John Mercanti’s 1986 heraldic eagle. The 2021 American Silver Eagles also starts a “renovated” representation of the iconic “Walking Liberty” design based on Adolph A.Weinman’s silver half dollar from 1916-1947.
The Mint utilizes unique opportunities to examine the designs of ancient coins used in contemporary corners. Modern technology has enabled the Mint to scan Weinman’s big Walking Liberty molds for a half dollar and capture all the delicate features of the artist’s original 1916 design. The new scans will show the renowned design of Weinman to the public as it had initially been planned.
The 2021 Silver Eagle Return
The design update of the 2021 Silver Eagle substitutes the iconic reverse “eagle with shield and stars” with a dynamic picture of a genuine bald eagle in flight. The eagle carries an oak branch and flashes its wings to the ground. The necessary inscriptions wrap around the rim and are present fresh, clean, and contemporary. The new motto E PLURIBUS UNUM was extending and placed over the coin’s weight in an earlier design.
American eagle design is Emily Damstra
The artist who designed the new American eagle design is Emily Damstra.
Damstra had created coins before for the well-known Royal Canadian Mint and contracted via the American Mint’s creative infusion program (AIP). Her work selected numerous proposals for reverse designs evaluated by a group of experts known as the Citizens Coinage Consultative Committee (CCAC).
2021 Release dates for Silver Eagle
The U.S. Mint intends to publish the revised 2021 American Silver Adler in the “summer of 2021” (“United States Mint Unveils New American Eagle Gold and Silver Coin Reverse Designs”). This implies that specific Silver Eagles variants are produce with both designs.
In an email, Michael White, a mint spokesman, stated that Silver Eagles from the West Point Mint, 2021 bullion, and 2021-W proofs would be available in January. Both carry the old, original design until the middle of the year and then move to the new reverse design.
In July, when the reverse is unveile, the 2021-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle will be issued. It implies that the previous reverse is not Mint in 2021. The same applies to Silver Eagle San Francisco Mint 2021-S evidence. Its typically published in October, long after the introduction of the new Silver Eagle reverse. So the 2020-S proof and the 2020-W Silver Eagles uncirculated are the latest mintages of their kind that have the old reverse. Accordingly, collectors should plan.
