Heritage for the Future in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure refers to all Capcom versions and ports of a fighting game based on the third section of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Stardust Crusaders.
It was first launched as an arcade game on the CPS-3W board system on December 2, 1998; outside of Japan, it was known as JoJo’s Venture. On September 13, 1999, a new version of the game called JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Heritage for the Future was released, making it the sixth and last game for the CPS-3.
Later that year, this version was ported to the PlayStation and Dreamcast, and in August 2012, a high-definition version dubbed JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure HD Ver. was published for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.
Profile:
The games were created by the same studio that worked on the Street Fighter III titles. Capcom’s signature anime-inspired graphics, as seen in the Darkstalkers series, are combined with Hirohiko Araki’s colourful characters and events, resulting in a highly stylized and detailed visual design. It also contains a whole new Stand Mode, in which the player may call or dismiss a character’s Stand at any moment, resulting in various move lists and qualities.
Hirohiko Araki served as a consultancy on the game and contributed original artwork for the game’s promotion and packaging; most notably, he designed a new character design for Midler from the ground up, despite the fact that she was only rarely portrayed in the manga. Araki based most of Midler’s new look on Yukako Yamagishi from Diamond is Unbreakable, as the two women have similar body types.
The game prominently features manga-style artwork, some with special flourishes created specifically for the game. The face-shot of a vanquished enemy is finished with a super combo move, whose animation also reflects the type of damage inflicted; depending on the finishing move, the picture would be riddled with bullet holes, bisected, or bleeding.
Other portions of the series are referenced in later iterations of the games.
These games, as well as their modifications, were among the first JoJo-related media to be released in North America. Bringing the series and its characters to a huge number of western players and customers.

GamePlay:
The simple gameplay mechanics are comparable to those of a traditional fighting game. Two or three timed rounds in which the goal is to deplete the opponent’s health bar by using both regular attacks and character-specific special and super moves. Which require the input of button pairings and/or the expenditure of accumulated energy, which is outputted in a power gauge that fills with every time damage is dealt or picked.
The game has a straightforward four-button control scheme, with three attacks and a Stand button that toggles the character’s Stand On and off.
Clashing:
Clashing occurs when multiple attacks of the same strength and intensity occur at the same moment and collide. Characters with an Active Stand are the only ones that experience this. It’s rare to witness this system in effect, so it’s difficult to observe it in action. Future JoJo games, such as All-Star Battle, would incorporate this mechanic. Colliding can sometimes result in a Blazing Fists Match.

Match: Blazing Fists
A Blazing Fists Match occurs when two opposing special techniques executed by particular characters clash at the same time. The player/s are then instructed to fast touch the attack buttons to win the battle and decide. Who will receive damage, a feature first seen in Samurai Shodown? All-Star Battle has since embraced and built on this functionality.
Factors that are kept hidden
“Secret factors” are a minor gameplay feature in the Super Story mode. As nods to the Stardust Crusaders plot, these aspects will be activated if the scenario is played out according to the official canon. If the player correctly activates the scenario, they will receive a high ranking when they complete it. This is a one-of-a-kind feature that honours the series’ original material while rewarding fans and readers.
