Will Gaming PC Ever Rule The World? Future of Desktop Computers
So, as most of you are well aware of the fact that PC Gaming is on a thriving rise. With the popularity of Steam and other gaming platforms online such as GOG and Good Old Games (Nah not really). The community itself is growing bigger and stronger. These opportunities have allowed gamers to interact more with each other within LAN parties or just plain old chats in IRCs . The same goes for eSports, where a lot of wannabe-Challengers (I know what I did there). Get into specific games to prove how good they are amongst others by entering sponsored tournaments hosted by big gaming teams such as ESL and ASUS ROG. But will these ever be able to take down Console Gaming? Of course not.
We are talking about technology here. I know a lot of you won’t like what I am going to say, but get your salt shakers ready.
And even if these will take down Consoles someday, that future is still far away – Years maybe? Well let me stop here and ask: ‘What really makes the difference between PC Gaming and Console Gaming’? Is it the Hardware? The Software Or just the way both platforms were made? So let’s start off with this one now shall we…
Future Of Gaming PC
Because I don’t know if you guys know this. But in order for a Console to be made, there needs to be at least two companies involved. The Hardware maker (who supplies the needed CPU/GPUs) and A Software maker (who supplies the needed Operating System). Of course, there could be more than just two companies getting into the game, but those two are still necessary.
I’m pretty sure you guys have heard of this statement before. “Age ain’t nothing but a number.” And well it’s true that for a best gaming PC to get into the market. It needs to go through rigorous testing and time for Research and Development. But does that mean Consoles are ahead of PCs? Not at all! In fact, PCs are way ahead in terms of GPGPUs/GPGRAs compared to any other gaming platform known to mankind. Those GPUs/CPUs enable 4K resolutions on both PC and Console alike. I mean think about it. What is the last time you have played a game in UHD? If you are one of those really lucky people who got your hands on a PS4 Pro, let alone being 4K compatible, then that means there is something called ‘Progressive Scan Mode’ available for the PS4! And if not… Then well I don’t know what to say. That’s because both hardware makers (Sony/Microsoft) don’t give an outright answer when asked why their consoles aren’t 4K compatible, but only upscaled to 4400p instead despite having powerful GPUs inside them.
Is PC Gaming Dying?
But why does this article need to be posted anyways? Is PC Gaming dying or something? Well hopefully not, but the fact that PC Gamers are still behind in Real-Time (Online) Multiplayer compared to their Console counterparts is a real shame for me. And it’s not just about having more people on your friends list or how laggy you get when you want to play with others around the world – Okay it kind of is – But let us be truthful here, there are some out there who actually have decent Internet connection and still prefer Consoles because they feel “In control” when playing online. It’s like saying “Hey I don’t care if my internet is really slow at times, as long as my PS4/Xbox One is working.” Which I’m sure most of you know already that a lot of gamers these days have switched to Consoles, not just because of the Quality in comparison to PC Gaming, but also because they feel more at Home.
The question I pose today is: ‘Are we really heading more toward a Console-Like experience on PCs?’ – or – ‘Is it already too late for us?’ Well sadly enough, this is something I cannot answer with ease. It all depends on what you as an individual prefer when it comes to Gaming. As for me… Well I still want my RTS games and MMORPGs with decent frame rates than watching some guys play COD online on their Xbox Ones. But that’s just me! And now that MMOs are becoming Social Games instead of being Browser-Based like before, then hell, I guess the console experience is already taking over. The only question that remains now is… Are we PC Gamers losing because of it?
Conclusion:
And just a quick update: For those wondering what GPU I’m using currently on my main rig, then it’s none other than NVIDIA GTX 1070 which replaced my previous NVIDIA Titan X prior to this one. And as for the CPU, well I still have Intel Core i7-4770K – Yes the good old Ivy Bridge – but soon enough will be getting a Haswell-E processor aka Intel Core i7-5820K. That way, if ever I get into Virtual Reality, then at least my PC will be ready for whatever comes next in terms of GPGPUs/GPGRAs.
The future of PC Gaming is still bright, but we need to make more use out of our PCs in order for it to stay relevant. Meaning we need to create innovative games that will keep us competitive in the market!
